Oprah & 378 Staffers Go Vegan...

vegenista:

…for one week!

Set your DVRs & tune in tomorrow, February 1, when the Oprah Winfrey Show airs:

 “The Vegan Challenge!”

Oprah, alongside 378 Harpo staffers, will take on veganism in a one-week challenge to cut out all animal products—“no meat, no dairy, no animal anything.” During the show, Oprah will speak with special guests Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, & eco-author Kathy Freston. In addition, brave journalist Lisa Ling will take the audience inside a beef processing plant.

This is the media mogal’s second attempt at going veg. In 2008 she spent 21 days on a vegan cleanse as part of a plan to try out “conscious eating.” It didn’t last beyond that, as during that time she claimed was craving eggs & cheese daily, but felt the experience left her more mindful of what she put in her body.

We have yet to see the impact of this latest challenge, but I am curious to see how 378 people react to making the switch! As This Dish Is Veg explained:

“We know that after this one-week challenge, no matter how wonderful the vegan diet is portrayed, it is quite likely that Oprah and her staffers will high tail it to the closest pizza joint to order a cheesy meaty pie before hitting up the local Baskin Robbins. That being said, it is still commendable that Oprah will highlight this topic on her show. Twenty years ago, we would have never seen a program with the reach of The Oprah Winfrey Show give an ounce of positive attention to veganism…”

Agreed!

I’m not a huge fan of Oprah, for oh so many reasons, but she does have a great platform for helping us be mindful...

Jonathan Safran Foer’s book is MUCH better than Michael Pollan’s. Jonathan even makes criticisms about Michael’s book,...
